The European Hydrogen Regions Initiative is structured around the following selection and project development process designed to identify high-potential hydrogen regions and support them in accelerating the development of integrated hydrogen ecosystems.The Toyota Mobilty Foundation reserves the right to adapt the timeline at its sole discretion if deemed necessary due to internal or external circumstances.
22 June – 17 July 2026: Application Phase
The online application portal is open to European regions wishing to participate in the European Hydrogen Regions Initiative.
Application deadline: 17 July 2026 (23:59 CET)
18 July – 31 July 2026: Evaluation of Applications
Applications will be assessed based on the project’s maturity, feasibility, relevance, replicability, scalability, and potential impact, the capabilities of the applicant team, the urgency of the challenge addressed, the commitment to knowledge-sharing, and the potential for broader adoption.
3 August – 7 August 2026: Selection of Regions
The Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) will select up to five regions to participate in the initiative and receive tailored support.
12 August 2026: Notification of Results
Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the selection process.
12 August – 30 September 2026: Project Planning Phase
Selected regions will work with the European Hydrogen Regions Initiative team (Spilett and ERM France) to develop detailed project plans and specify support needs.
October – December 2026: Preparation and Contracting
TMF and the selected regions will finalize implementation plans, support packages, contractual arrangements, and operational preparations for project launch.
January 2027: Start of Project Implementation
Implementation activities commence in the selected regions, with tailored support measures aimed at strengthening regional hydrogen ecosystems and accelerating sustainable hydrogen deployment.
